(San Francisco, CA)
The Corporate and Regional Headquarters for Swinerton Incorporated, Swinerton Builders and Swinerton Management & Consulting, 260 Townsend Street in San Francisco, was awarded First Place as the Commercial Recycler of the Year, Small Sized Office Buildings, at the recent Fourth Annual CORY Awards at the Palace Hotel in San Francisco.
Swinerton Building Manager J.W. Muncie Fahrion picked up the award at the event, which included a certificate, a miniature Golden Dumpster and a check for $1,000.
Sponsored by the San Francisco Department of Environment and the Building Owners and Managers Association (BOMA) San Francisco Commercial Recycling Task Force, the CORY Awards were developed to honor and acknowledge San Francisco businesses that perform an outstanding job of putting “reduce, reuse and recycle” into practice.
Swinerton, an active proponent of Sustainable Design & Green Building practices within the construction industry, promotes recycling in every aspect of their operation including paper usage, plastic and metals, and outdated computer equipment. On jobsites, Swinerton works diligently to minimize construction debris from demolition and construction. At their Concord, CA facility, Swinerton installed photovoltaic panels that now generate 75% of the electricity used at the site.
“The Swinerton Green Team, with 17 LEED United States Green Building Council Accredited Professionals and more than 200 employees who have taken Green training courses, is an active advocacy group that works with design teams, project staffs, and estimating departments to provide practical, cost-effective Green solutions,” stated Bill Krill, Green Building Committee co-chair and operations manager for the San Francisco Division.
“Swinerton Builders is also participating in the LEED-EB pilot program on the renovation of our new Corporate and Regional Headquarters at 260 Townsend Street in San Francisco,” Krill said.
