This facility included numerous energy conservation systems. The
26,000-foot glass line on the sunny elevations of the facility was
equipped with dual-paned windows with a ¾"-glass float
and a motorized automatic blind system. Additionally an ice production
and storage system was installed. Ice is produced during lower utility
demand, which reduces the need for conventional cooling systems
operation during peak-demand periods. During the day, water from
the man-made lakes is cooled through the coils of the ice plant,
and then cycled through the heat exchanger of the building's cooling
system. During evening periods when outside ambient air is cool,
the warmed lake water is circulated through pop-up sprinklers, utilizing
the evaporative cooling effect to reduce lake-water temperature.
This results in lower water temperature at the start of the next
day, reducing energy consumption during peak-demand times, saving
both money, and the utility's required production capacity. |
